Electricity is one of our countries most treasured things that often gets taken for granted. Homes today rely completely on electricity for every day living activities. Unfortunately, there are safety concerns that need to be taken account for.
- Water: Most of us understand that water and electricity don’t mix very well. When using water or electricity, be sure that you are not mixing the two. Even with wet hands be sure to dry them off before touching outlets and electrical appliances.
- Extension Cords: Extension Cords are extremely helpful but should not be used for an extended period of time. They are made for temporary use, so after a short usage, you should roll it up and store. We also suggest not running these cords through walls and ceilings because it could actually lead to overheating and possible electrical fires.
- Broken Smoke Alarms: Your smoke alarm could truly save your life. They are able to detect smoke/heat and then are able to alert an entire house with a load noise. We have all heard this at some point or another but if the batteries are dead, you don’t have this crucial safety barrier. The NFPA has reported a startling number that around 2/3 of all house fire deaths occurred within non functioning fire alarm homes. To ensure your smoke alarm works, just check the TEST button once a month.
